Driving the Bus

I knew it was bad. I just never realized it was, well, this bad. (via Rite Turn Only)

When the final news conference rolled around Sunday afternoon in Hong Kong, Martin decided it was time to clear the air with a lengthy dissertation, complete with crib notes.

"I believe that Canada can, and I believe Canada has to make a difference," said the prime minister.

"And that my definition of Canadian sovereignty is in fact a Canada that is making that difference. Let me then take it to the next level. Let's take that concept and bring it down to hard cases."

The United States is no longer the world's sole economic superpower, said Martin. China has entered the arena, and India is close behind. Brazil and Russia are emerging economic behemoths.

"Surely the time (has come) to build those relationships . . . with Russia, Brazil, India and China ... ," said Martin.

"The time to do it is not 10 years from now. The time to do it is now"

That simple message took Martin almost 10 minutes to enunciate.

At least when I want to go to sleep, I know what I should listen to. And this fiasco is the fault of none other than Martin himself:

By the time Martin gave his last public address at a dinner Saturday evening in Hong Kong, he was swaying on his feet with fatigue and stumbling over his words. The Media assigned to cover him were in worse shape. It was a lose-lose situation.

Reporters attempting to understand the over-freighted agenda repeatedly queried Martin's handlers on the wisdom of setting such a punishing pace. By trip's end it was clear: the boss was driving the bus, to his own detriment and that of everyone around him.
